Bruce Barton's "Spare Time" Speech

A rare speech from one of my heros, the subject
of my book, The Seven Lost Secrets of Success

Last month a man in Chicago refused a million dollars for an invention he had evolved in his spare time.

You are interested in this because it confronts you with the possibilities of your spare time. Did you ever stop to think that most of the world's great men have achieved their true life work, not in the course of their needful occupations, but- in their spare time?

A tired-out rail-splitter crouched over his tattered books by candlelight or by fire-glow, at the day's end: preparing for his future, instead of snoring or skylarking like his co-laborers. Lincoln cut out his pat to later immortality--in his spare time.

An underpaid and overworked telegraph clerk stole hours from sleep or from play, at night, trying to crystallize in to realities certain fantastic dreams in which he had faith. Today the whole world is benefiting by what Edison did--in his spare time.

A down-at-the-heel instructor in an obscure college varied the drudgery he hated by spending his evenings and holidays in tinkering with a queer device of his, at which his fell teachers laughed. But he invented the telephone--in his spare time.

Gentlemen, you, too, have spare time. The man who says: "I would do such and such of a great thing, if only I had time!" would do nothing if he had all the time on the calendar. There is always time--spare time--at the disposal of every human who has the energy to use it. Use it!

How to Get Results Without Struggle?

by Dr. Robert Anthony
BeyondPositivethinking.com

One of the misconceptions most people operate under is you get what you want in life by what you DO, or through the actions you take. Most people believe the DOING or action part is what makes things happen. Actually, "doing" causes you to create in reverse.

Let me explain.

The reason we put a lot of emphasis on action is because we do not understand the power of our thought. If you analyze it, 90% of most people's actions are spent trying to compensate for inappropriate thought.

The Chinese philosopher Lao-tsu said, "In the practice of the Way, every day something is dropped. Less and less do you need to force things until finally you arrive at *non action.* When nothing is done, nothing is left undone." What he is talking about is *doing without doing.*

The problem is most of us are preoccupied with "doing". Unfortunately most of our doing usually involves struggle. In the western world we are conditioned to be action-oriented, so we place a tremendous value on doing. We are so busy doing we do not realize that all this "doingness" causes us to create in a reverse fashion.

Most of our actions are out of fear, worry or doubt because we believe nothing will get done unless we DO something. In other words, we are trying to force our desire into manifestation through action.

If your decision to DO is dominant, then you will not focus on what you want to BE in the present moment. This causes you to miscreate because BEING is the first and most important step in the creative process.

Here is the secret to getting results with ease:

It is not your action that makes things happen, it is your intent. You can reduce the need for action to a very minimum by allowing yourself to focus on what you desire until you feel the positive energy begin to move within you. This energy is not based on doubt, fear, anxiety, worry or need. If you focus on what you want instead of what you don't want, you will know when it is time to take action. And when you do, it will be effortless. Doors open and the entire universe will conspire to assist you in your desire.

Put simply, you should take no action on anything until you have visualized your desire and made it real enough in your mind that your next action (step), whatever it is, seems like the most logical step.

How can you know the next logical step? Here is the test that you can give to yourself before taking any action: If you focus on what you desire and still feel overwhelmed or anxious, then you are not ready for any action. You know you are ready when it feels like the next logical step is effortless. There is no effort, no strain, and no pain.

What we want to do is to use the leverage of energy, the same leverage of energy that creates everything in the universe. However, we are so caught up in the reality of WHAT IS, that we feel we must create everything through physical activity.

Have you ever seen people who seem to have all the wonderful things in their life without much effort? It almost seems like they have an advantage over everyone else. Then you see the people who work the hardest usually have the least. That doesn't seem fair, does it? But that's the way the universe works.

Unfortunately, those who work the hardest usually have the least because they haven't learned the leverage of aligning their energy. They are going about creating their lives the hard way. They are trying to use their actions to create what they want.

We have also been programmed that in order to have what we desire we must work hard. How many times have you heard - "No pain, no gain." The implication is that if you want to make something of yourself, you must work hard. The message is clear - if you are not hurting or struggling, you are not moving forward.

But here is the truth - anytime you are struggling you are miscreating. Anytime you feel pain or struggle, your magnetic point of attraction is directed to that which you do not want, rather than to that which you desire. (Read that again.)

Actions are necessary, but they are the last component of the creation processes. Actions cannot be used effectively to initiate results, because initiation is the function of BEING, then thought, then action.

Remember, the creation of anything is through your vibration. Everything vibrates, and it is by that vibration that we harmonize and attract experiences to ourselves. So before you act or do anything, first ask yourself, how am I vibrating? How do you tell? You tell by how you FEEL. Your feelings show you your vibration. How you feel determines what you attract.

When you use the process of creating by only focusing on what you want instead of what you don't want, you will see that the universe will provide a different set of circumstances for you that requires much less action. This puts you in a state of "doing without doing" or action without effort.

So if you want more results in your life -- and with far less effort, struggle and pain -- try this "not doing" way to success.

The Top 10 Destructive Money Beliefs and How to Overcome Them

Article by Dan Klatt
InnerWealthMastery.com

If you're not making as much money as you'd like, then you're holding onto some negative beliefs about yourself and how much money you're capable of handling.

In this article we'll go through 10 of the most common (and most limiting) examples of how people hold themselves back financially.

Subscribers to my ezine, "The Abundant Mind," get a Money Beliefs Quiz. From their results I've compiled these Top 10 Destructive Money Beliefs. How many can you relate to?

10. "Money is not spiritual."

Here's the belief that you're somehow more spiritual or more likely to have a better afterlife if you sacrifice greatly this time around. Or that you'll suffer after you die if you pursue the things you want, which you need money to buy. This belief is most often an effect of people's religious upbringing. Remember, you're here to live life fully right now. (Also see belief No. 1.)

9. "I'll get to it tomorrow."

When you put things off, you step out of the natural flow which includes Abundance coming into your life. It's almost always based on your fear that you'll fail anyway, and that will disappoint you. So you delay what you feel is inevitable. Once you start living in the moment, though, you let go of the grip the past held on you. You realize you're a new person now. You've learned and grown a lot since the last time things didn't go as planned. (And that only happened because you still had not learned something you needed then to succeed, which you probably know now.)

8. "I'll probably just fail anyway."

We've probably all heard the wisdom of Wayne Gretzky: "You always miss the shot you don't take." When people don't take action because they're afraid they'll fail, well, guess what, by not even trying they already have failed. You have already succeeded just by moving forward. You may not achieve your objectives right away, yet you will still have learned some valuable lessons. And that makes it more likely you'll succeed next time.

7. "But we can't afford that."

This kind of thinking comes from scarcity and lack, not Abundance. It also gets people to focus on what they don't have (which empowers them "not-having"). They feel like the things they do have are not enough. Instead, when you appreciate everything you do have, you come from Abundance and start bringing the things you want closer to you. You also realize there is no limit to what you can become, accomplish or have.

6. "Rich people are greedy and dishonest."

The first person to spread this untruth must have been a poor person. The fact is that most people who become wealthy are at least somewhat aware of the spiritual principles that allowed them to prosper. A key part of that is to stay in the flow, which means giving back. Rich people are among the most generous, too, and they started their habit of giving long before they started having a lot of money. Coincidence? Not a chance.

5. "If I'm successful, my friends will be jealous and stop liking me."

Remember that we live in an abundant universe. There IS enough for everyone. People who envy what others have are coming from scarcity and actually are a harmful influence on your Abundant Mind. It's actually critical to your experience of prosperity to only allow positive, supportive and inspiring messages into your brain. (And that especially includes your own thoughts!)

4. "I'm no better than my parents, so I shouldn't make
more than they did."

The world was much different when your parents were where you're at. Tools like the Internet have made it possible for everyone to make a lot of money doing what they love. Besides, your parents may have struggled precisely to give you a better life than they had. They loved you and would want it no other way.

3. "I might forget what's truly important and not like
the person I've become."

People who are greedy still come from scarcity and lack. (And if they made lots of money, they will not enjoy it and are more likely to lose it.) Instead, you'll come from Abundance, and you know that encompasses far more than material wealth. In fact, it requires a balance between great health, meaningful relationships, ample time for relaxation and playing, and truly enjoying your financial abundance. You will have an abundance of happiness when you come from an Abundant Mind.

2. "Money is the root of all evil."

This is the most common error we learn from our parents and religious institutions, and it keeps millions in poverty and a slave to money. That, by the way, is the only way we may judge money as "evil" - when it controls us. And that only happens when we feel we need it, because we're coming from scarcity and lack. When you come from Abundance, money becomes a tool to enjoy the finer things in life and to give you everything you need to fulfill your life purpose. That's why we're here, right?

1. "I'm not worthy."

Did you realize that fully 90 percent of the population has an issue with low self-esteem? It's the No. 1 thing that holds people back and prevents them from living their dreams. When people feel they don't deserve wealth or abundance in any area, they don't take the opportunities they're given and instead do nothing and complain about people who have become abundant. They also make up lots of excuses to justify how life has done them wrong. Instead, please realize that The Abundant Mind is what separates the richest person from the crowd, and you can choose right now to come from Abundance and take your place among the wealthy. You ARE worthy.
